With the Milwaukee Brewers Craig Counsell was a finalist for manager of the year on several occasions and 2023 was no different. Before the 2023 winner was announced he did jump ship and join the Chicago Cubs, but after the votes were tallied he once again fell short of being the winner. Edging him out by a score of 72 to 51 was Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker.

51 points equated to Craig Counsell finishing second in the manager of the year voting. This is the fourth time in his career that he has been the runner up. The 2023 totals had him receiving five first place votes, seven second place votes, and five third place votes.
After news broke that Craig Counsell had fallen short of winning Milwaukee Brewers fans reacted on social media. Seeing how he is with the Chicago Cubs now their reactions this year were quite different then year’s past.
Milwaukee Brewers fans react to current Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell falling short of winning the 2023 manager of the year award.

Should never win because he can’t win a playoff series. Have fun Cubs.

He’s used to not winning, just like in the playoffs

Realistically, this was probably his second most-deserving season to win the award. That said, it would have been just more salt in the wide open wound if he (finally) won that award now.

Craig is a lock to win it next season if the Cubs are even remotely competitive simply because he’ll be in a big market.

Interesting. One Chicago voter had Counsell first, the other had him second behind Roberts. Other Central: No Counsell first place in Cincy and St. Louis, not in the top three for Counsell from either Pittsburgh voter.

Classic Clownsell, if “almost winning” was a statistic. He’d be a first ballot HOF’r
