Former Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell has never won a manager of the year award. On several occasions he has been named a finalist, but another skipper has always been chosen over him. Coincidentally he was named a top three finalist for his actions during the 2023 season on the same day that he elected to sign a new record breaking deal with the Chicago Cubs.

Milwaukee Brewers: Craig Counsell named a finalist for 2023 manager of the year.
In 2023 Craig Counsell led the Milwaukee Brewers to a National League Division title. Overall the Brew Crew finished with the third best NL record at 92-70 and were fifth overall in the league. Craig Counsell navigated several injuries to the starting rotation over the course of the year in which Brandon Woodruff made just 11 total starts, but Adrian Houser and Wade Miley also missed time.

Craig Counsell’s competition for the 2023 manager of the year award consists of the Atlanta Braves skipper Brian Snitker and first year Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker. The Braves had the best record in the league with 104 wins. Miami exceeded expectations, but their 84 wins were not enough to make the post season.
On paper Brian Snitker is the favorite to win the award. His team not only had the best regular season record but they were dominant on the field. Their +231 run differential was the best in the league and they won both 52 games at home and on the road.

The 2023 manager of the year award winner will be announced on Tuesday, November 14.
