Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes is one player who is heavily involved in trade rumors. Recent reports were suggesting that the Brew Crew may retain him over the winter with the thought of competing for a second straight National League Central division in 2024. However now Jon Morosi of MLB Network is suggesting the opposite and that he will be traded before spring training.
Four west coast teams enamored with Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes.
According to Jon Morosi four teams, all on the west coast, are enamored with Corbin Burnes to varying degrees. He listed the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Angels. None of these teams come as a surprise, but it will take an enticing trade package for any of them to acquire Corbin Burnes.
Of these teams mentioned all are in need of pitching. The Dodgers are without Clayton Kershaw due to undergoing surgery, Julio Urias is on administrative leave, and Lance Lynn signed with the Cardinals. Similarly the Giants lost Alex Cobb and Sean Manaea to free agency, the Padres lost Blake Snell, and the Angels Shohei Ohtani.
If any of these four teams are going to trade for Corbin Burnes the Los Angeles Dodgers have the highest ranked farm system. Another consideration is that it’s possible that MLB players would have to be included in a package deal as well. A swap of star players, like Juan Soto of the San Diego Padres, would be a difficult block buster deal to orchestrate, so it’s likely that controllable assets would be involved in the trade package.
All of this sets up what should be an interesting week of Winter Meetings at the start of December. If Corbin Burnes is going to get traded there’s a good chance it could occur when top executives from all organizations are all in one place.
