The Milwaukee Brewers off-season so far has been filled with more rumors and speculations than actions. Starting pitcher Corbin Burnes has been the headliner of most of these rumors in which the latest reports have indicated that he will begin the 2024 season with the Brew Crew. The plan from there is to re-evaluate closer to the trade deadline.
With a trade this winter involving Corbin Burnes seeming unlikely, there are now some teams scrambling and looking elsewhere for starting pitching. For one American League East team in particular they apparently checked in on Burnes availability but were unwilling to match the asking price.
MLB Insider reveals that the Boston Red Sox have checked in on Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes.
According to Jim Bowden, who is a MLB Analyst and Insider, the Red Sox have checked in on quite a few starting pitchers this off-season. Bowden’s list includes Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox, Jesús Luzardo with the Miami Marlins, and Corbin Burnes of the Milwaukee Brewers.
“They’ve had trade discussions with the (Chicago White Sox) regarding Cease, but those have never gotten any traction. They touched base with the Brewers on Corbin Burnes and that went nowhere, and they had a conversation with the (Miami Marlins) about Jesús Luzardo that also came up empty.”
-Jim Bowden
Boston has had a confusing off-season. They made a splash signing in Lucas Giolito, but then traded Chris Sale while also replacing members from last year’s team with cheaper options. Rumors have surfaced that they are looking to decrease payroll, but they also seem unwilling to deal away top prospects via trade.

Outside of the Brewers high asking price for Corbin Burnes another factor to take into consideration is that Burnes has made it known that he would have to blown away by a contract offer to sign an extension after being traded. He seems very adamant on testing the free agent market, seeing what his true worth is, and picking where he signs.
