The Milwaukee Brewers lost David Stearns earlier this year after his contract with the Crew expired and he elected to sign with his hometown New York Mets. In the big apple he has taken over as their president of baseball operations.
To no surprise his familiarity with the Brewers farm system and prospects has now resulted in him reuniting with a former top 30 prospect from Milwaukee’s system. This player was also previously on the 40-man roster as recently as the 2023 season, but he never made his MLB debut.
Former top 30 Milwaukee Brewers prospect Cam Robinson has reunited with David Stearns by signing with the New York Mets.
Right-handed reliever Cam Robinson saw his prospect stock sore a few years ago when he posted a 3.08 ERA in 2021 and 2.49 in 2022. The former 23rd round draft pick was Rule-5 draft eligible last winter so he was placed on the 40-man roster in order to be protected.
Unfortunately the wheels fell off in 2023 and he eventually was designated for assignment in the middle of summer. Upon conclusion of the season he elected free agency and now has signed a minor league deal with an invite to big league camp with the Mets.
The familiarity that David Stearns has with Cam Robinson likely played a major role in this decision. Robinson is coming off a 5.33 ERA season in which his strikeout rate dropped significantly and his walk rate rose. Perhaps reuniting with a familiar face in a new setting will get him back on track.
