This is gutting news for the Milwaukee Brewers and Brandon Woodruff.
It was announced on Friday that Brandon Woodruff will likely miss the entire 2024 season to repair the anterior capsule in his right shoulder. Woodruff is a free agent after 2024, so he may have thrown his last pitch in a Brewers uniform.
With Woodruff’s injury and Corbin Burnes’ future in doubt, the Brewers rotation that was once a strong suit looks less formidable now.
Fans were gutted to hear the news about Milwaukee Brewers star RHP Brandon Woodruff.
The injury news for Brandon Woodruff is a tough blow to the Milwaukee Brewers because he was expected to be a pitcher that Milwaukee relied on along with Corbin Burnes next season. Still, Matt Arnold has some tough decisions on the futures of Woodruff and Burnes.
Woodruff missed most of the year due to a shoulder injury and pitched well when he came back. Still, he was tagged with four earned runs in his final start of the year against the Miami Marlins, but he was expected to pitch in the Wild-Card series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. On the eve of the series, it was announced that Woodruff would miss the series against the Diamondbacks with a capsular injury.
Woodruff said it was up in the air, but I think he knew this wasn’t an injury that would have gone away without surgery.
Unfortunate news for Brandon Woodruff on Friday, and fans are gutted to hear the news.
Feel so bad for him. Great pitcher, great leader. A huge loss.

One thing that should be addressed about Woodruff’s injury is that the pitch clock should not be to blame. The pitchers had a whole offseason to adjust to the new rules. Injuries are a part of the game. Woodruff’s injury shouldn’t be blamed on the new rules, or his having to throw the ball five seconds quicker isn’t the reason why he’ll miss the 2024 season.
Shoulder and elbow injuries happened even when pitchers had all day to throw. The notion that this injury was caused because he had 15 seconds to throw isn’t true.
This is troubling news for the Milwaukee Brewers, and with the future of Manager Craig Counsell being uncertain, the Milwaukee Brewers might look a whole lot different next season
