Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff has been excellent since being activated off of the injured list in August. Through his first five starts (all in August) he covered 28.2 innings, had a 3.45 ERA, and went somewhere in between five and six innings pitched in each outing. In September he has reached an entirely different level and this makes him an early pitcher of the month candidate.
Could Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff win September pitcher of the month?
Among all National League starting pitchers Brandon Woodruff currently has the most innings pitched in September (22), best ERA (0.41), and the second best WHIP (0.64). Along with these impressive statistics he has one complete game shutout.
While there is still a second half of the month to go, let’s take a look at how Brandon Woodruff stacks up against some other pitchers.
Logan Webb (SF): 20.2 IP, 1.74 ERA, 0.68 WHIP
Kodai Senga (NYM): 19.0 IP, 1.42 ERA, 1.00 WHIP
Max Fried (ATL): 18.0 IP, 2.00 ERA, 1.06 WHIP
Blake Snell (SD): 18.0 IP, 1.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP.
Previously Brandon Woodruff’s teammates in Corbin Burnes, Devin Williams, and Freddy Peralta all won the pitcher of the month awards in July and August. A lot can happen over the next two weeks, but so far his numbers are the best among some very good pitchers.
