Opening day for the Milwaukee Brewers did not go as planned as the team lost to the Chicago Cubs 4-0. Despite this, two Brew Crew players were able to accomplish Major League firsts during the game. Infielder Brice Turang collected his first career hit and relief pitcher Gus Varland his first career strikeout.

During the third inning, Brice Turang hit an infielder chopper to second base. The throw to first base was a bit high, but the official ruling was still a hit. For Turang, his first career major league hit came off of Marcus Stroman.

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Gus Varland collects his first career strikeout.
In the seventh inning Rule-5 selection Gus Varland picked up his first career strikeout. Ahead in the count 0-2 he blew a high fastball past Miles Mastrobuoni. He ended up pitching a scoreless inning to begin his Major League career.

The Milwaukee Brewers will be off on Friday March 31 and game two will be on Saturday April 1. First pitch for that Saturday game is scheduled for 1:20PM in which on the mound Brandon Woodruff will square off against Justin Steele.
