The Milwaukee Brewers have a 26 percent decrease in their playoff odds for the 2024 regular season. This means the Brewers will have to count on a lot of inexperienced players who haven’t seen a lot of time out on the field. Even ESPN does not believe the Brewers will not appear in the 2024 postseason. Just this past week, we’ve looked at Milwaukee’s potential leaders for the 2024 season in home runs and RBIs. Last season, Major League Baseball announced the shortening of the base paths, which resulted in more stolen bases. It’s time to look at who will lead the Brewers in this statistical category.
2024 Milwaukee Brewers Potential Stolen Base Leaders
1. Jackson Chourio
Milwaukee is relying heavily on 19-year-old center fielder Jackson Chourio to be a huge asset for the franchise in 2024. Back in December, he signed an eight-year deal with the Brewers, before even appearing in a major league game. Using ZiPS Projections on Fangraphs, they believe that Chourio has the capability to be amongst the best rookies in the National League.
ZiPS Projections predicts that Jackson will the Brewers with 150 hits, and in stolen bases with 35. If the 19-year-old center fielder can finish close to these numbers, there’s no doubt he’ll be a favorite to win the 2024 National League Rookie of the Year. As well as keeping Milwaukee in the playoff conversation.
2. Tyler Black
Brewers’ fourth-ranked prospect Tyler Black has done a ton of preparation for the 2024 MLB regular season. Since being the 33rd overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, Black has faced some adversity during his minor league career. He told The Sports Network about the tribulations he’s dealt with before arriving at Spring Training in 2024. Black said,
“Honestly, since I got drafted it’s been a rollercoaster ride,” Black said. “There’s been a lot of ups and downs. I got drafted and kind of struggled in pro ball early on and got hurt and everything, but the past year and a half has been really good, I’ve been kind on the field staying healthy.”
If Tyler gets a roster invite, the 23-year-old will be another young player trying to learn and improve each and every day. ZiPS Projections has Black recording 105 hits, 10 home runs, 61 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases. Tyler Black has a lot of potential and could be a core part of this Brewers franchise moving forward.
3. Christian Yelich
Last season, Christian Yelich led Milwaukee with 28 stolen bases. Yelich certainly had a bounce-back season in 2023 and will look to keep continuing playing well in 2024. Even in perfect health, ZiPS cannot see Yelich having a WAR of over three. During the 2024 season, ZiPS Projections predicts that the former 2018 National League MVP will rank third on the Brewers with 19 stolen bases. The 32-year-old outfielder will look to show Milwaukee that he’s still capable of being one of the top guys in the lineup.
During the 2024 season, Yelich has a chance to make history. This season, he has the opportunity to hit his 200th career home run, steal his 200th career base, and score his 1,000 career run. Christian is just seven home runs, and 16 stolen bases away from reaching this achievement.
