The Milwaukee Brewers have been relatively quiet this off-season and were recently ranked as one of the least improved teams this winter. On the other hand the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, and Pittsburgh Pirates have been active in improving their team through external additions. Their last division opponent, the Chicago Cubs, did not make any big league signings until the recent announcement that they were signing LHP Shōta Imanaga.

As of Saturday, January 13 the Cubs have the best odds at winning the division in 2024. The Cardinals are second, Reds third, Brewers fourth, and Pirates last. These odds were provided courtesy of Draft Kings.

A season ago the Milwaukee Brewers won the National League Central division with 92 wins. St. Louis won the division in 2022 with 93 wins, Brewers in 2021 with 95, and then the Cubs were champions during the shortened 2020 season. Cincinnati has not won the central division since 2012 and the Pirates have never finished first since the division was created in 1994.
There are still two and half months of the off-season left before Opening Day, so it will be interesting to see if any of these teams can make significant enough moves to change their current odds. The National League central race remained close throughout the vast majority of the 2023 season, so regardless 2024 should be another competitive season between all of these teams.
