The Milwaukee Brewers have not yet made a flashy move this off-season. A few of their transactions include trading for 1B/DH Jake Bauers, RHP Taylor Clarke, LHP Bryan Hudson, and INF Oliver Dunn. They have also signed LHP Wade Miley, RHP Joe Ross, and C Eric Haase to contracts in free agency.
There are still approximately two and a half months before Opening Day in New York, but if the off-season ended today the Brew Crew would be ranked as one of the least improved teams this off-season. Bleacher Report Walk-Off recently put together a list of the top 10 teams who have not improved this winter and the Brewers came in at eighth.
Milwaukee Brewers ranked as one of the least improved teams this off-season.
According to a list composed by Zachary Rymer the following teams have improved the least this off-season. This list is provided in an order where the number one ranked team, the Los Angeles Angels, have shown the least improvement when compared to the start of the off-season
- Los Angeles Angels
- San Diego Padres
- Minnesota Twins
- Tampa Bay Rays
- Texas Rangers
- Houston Astros
- Baltimore Orioles
- Milwaukee Brewers
- Seattle Mariners
- Boston Red Sox
Of the 10 teams mentioned six of them made the play-offs a season ago including the 2023 World Series champions. Part of the reason why the Twins, Rays, Rangers, Astros, Orioles, and Brewers are on this list is due to them already having key contributors locked up on their roster. Another factor is that some of these teams are looking to improve from within and are building up through their farm system.
Regardless of each team’s strategy and vision for the 2024 season, it will be interesting to see if any of them start feeling the pressure to make some moves. There are still a few elite level players available in free agency including Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery and Josh Hader.
