The Green Bay Packers are dealing with several injuries at the wide receiver position. Randall Cobb suffered a severe ankle sprain. An injury that may keep him out for multiple weeks. Christian Watson has been a non-participant in practice for a while now. It looks bleak for him to play any time soon. The only positive injury news at the wide receiver position seems to be that a Sammy Watkins return is imminent. Matt LaFleur provided an injury update on the starting wide receiver today.
Matt LaFleur Would Like To Get Sammy Watkins Back This Week
Head Coach Matt LaFleur wouldn’t commit to when Wide Receiver Sammy Watkins will return to action.
“It’s kind of up in the air, I’d say. … Certainly, we’d like to get him out there, but we don’t want to put him at further risk.
Watkins practiced for a third straight day for the Packers on Friday. Sunday remains up in the air, however, three straight days of practice is extremely promising. This is a video of Watkins warming up on the field before the Packers’ contest with the New York Jets:

Getting Sammy Watkins back will be big for this offense. Having someone out there to stretch the field for Rodgers will hopefully open up the offense. Many fans were hoping Christian Watson would be the long-term solution for this wrinkle in the offense, however, Watson has struggled to remain on the field as well. With so much up in the air at the wide receiver position, Green Bay has been at the center of trade rumors. If Matt LaFleur / Brian Gutekunst were to pull one off, it could be massive for this offense.
