The Los Angeles Dodgers remain interested in Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames, according to a league source who told The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya. At this current moment, the Brewers do not want to trade him. Adames is 28 years old and he will be a free agent after this season.
Willy Adames played in 149 games last season for the Milwaukee Brewers. He had a .217 batting average with 24 home runs and 80 RBIs, along with five stolen bases and three caught stealing attempts. Adames also had a .310 batting average last season with Milwaukee.
One of the main reasons why the Los Angeles Dodgers are interested in trading for Adames is because Gavin Lux lost his shortstop position in spring training to Mookie Betts. Betts is more of an outfielder and shortstop seems like a secondary position to him.
Lux missed all of the 2023 season with an injury. The Dodgers are the prohibitive favorites to win the 2024 World Series. Los Angeles is always looking to improve the roster.
The Milwaukee Brewers Will Probably Trade Shortstop Willy Adames To the Los Angeles Dodgers or Somewhere Else If Milwaukee Is Out of Contention By the 2024 MLB Trade Deadline
Adames’s name will be a hot name on the MLB trade market if the Brewers are out of contention by the MLB trade deadline this year. Milwaukee can very well go through a transitional season in 2024. Willy Adames can very well help contenders with his glove and his bat.
General manager Matt Arnold would like to not trade him this season and hope to give him a new contract. However, they didn’t give starting pitcher Corbin Burnes a new contract and they traded him to the Baltimore Orioles for a couple of players with one year remaining on his deal.
If the Brewers know later on this season that they are out of the race and also will not be able to re-sign Willy Adames, it would be business malpractice not to trade him for more prospects. However, if they are winning the division by the time the MLB trade deadline rolls around, there is no need to trade him to a team like the Los Angeles Dodgers or another MLB contender that will want a shortstop.
