Milwaukee Brewers Keston Hiura, who is a former ninth overall pick in the 2017 MLB draft, won’t make the team out of spring training. The team made the announcement on Friday afternoon after they scratched him out of the starting lineup. Keston Hiura, who many believed was a trade candidate this offseason, is now officially on the trade block.
The Brewers will try to find an MLB opportunity for Keston Hiura via trade in the next few days, GM Matt Arnold said. If they cannot find a deal, Hiura would go on waivers. Brewers are open to keeping him in the organization should it get to that.

Milwaukee Brewers former ninth overall pick Keston Hiura won’t break spring training with the team.
Entering spring training Keston Hiura was in a tough spot. The once promising and talented hitting prospect had not found success over the past three seasons after breaking out in limited opportunities in 2019 and as a result the team brought in Luke Voit to compete against him. On top of that, years of shuttling back and forth between the Major and Minor Leagues left him out of MiLB options entering the 2023 season.
Rather than hold onto Hiura, the Milwaukee Brewers will look to trade him. It’s possible that a team like the Philadelphia Phillies, who recently lost Rhys Hoskins, could be interested in trading for him. The Brewers likely would get a low level prospect back in exchange for Hiura.

If Milwaukee is unable to find a trade partner, Hiura could stay with the organization by remaining in the Minor Leagues. Once removed from the 40-man roster, he would have to pass through waivers in order for this to be possible.

It will be interesting to see if the Milwaukee Brewers will be able to find Keston Hiura a new home or not.
