The Green Bay Packers are set to have one of the most lethal pass rushes in the NFL. When Rashan Gary returns from his ACL injury, the Packers could have Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness, Kenny Clark, and Devonte Wyatt (who has been making a huge second-year leap) all on the field at the same time. That is a formidable pass rush no matter how good the offensive line is. However, news has recently surfaced of a Rashan Gary trade that has fans going crazy.
Rashan Gary Named In Bleacher Report Trade Article
Paolo Songco of Wisconsin Sports Heroics highlighted the news earlier today:
Rashan Gary was in the midst of arguably his best season as a pro last year. Unfortunately for him, a torn ACL derailed his promising run as the brutal injury forced him to sit out the remainder of the season for the Packers. The 25-year-old worked extremely hard over the past months to rehab his surgically repaired knee. He is now on the brink of returning, and it’s looking like Gary is fully intent on making up for lost time.
Matt Holder of Bleacher Report recently came up with a list containing one player from each team that he believes should be placed on the trade block. Holder believes that Gary could be surplus to requirements in Green Bay:
“Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers have Preston Smith under team control until 2027 and just spent their first pick of the draft on another edge defender, Lukas Van Ness.
So, the Packers would still have plenty of pass-rushers if they dealt Gary, especially since they also selected defensive linemen Colby Wooden and Karl Brooks last April, plus Devonte Wyatt the year before,” Holder wrote.
One major consideration for the Packers, though, is the fact that Gary is now entering a contract year. It doesn’t seem like Green Bay is going to be offering him an extension any time soon, which will make him a significant flight risk next summer.
The Green Bay Packers Will Absolutely Not Trade Rashan Gary
The Packers have a history of paying their own players rather than forking out big money in free-agency. Jaire Alexander, Kenny Clark, David Bakhtiari, and even Davante Adams (even though he chose to be traded) are all players that the Packers either did retain on mega deals, or attempted to. It is highly unlikely the Packers let Rashan Gary walk into free agency without offering him a similar type of contract.
Rashan Gary was on his way to having one of the best seasons at his position last year before a torn ACL knocked him out for the final two months of the season. He started the season with a sack in each of the first four games for a total of five, and he had six sacks before the injury, well on his way to surpassing his career high of 9.5 set in 2021
Gary has 15.5 sacks over the last two seasons despite only playing in 75% of the teams’ games. Baring health, Gary is on track to be one of the best edge rushers in the entire NFL. A player that a defense could build around. There is no way the Packers think about trading him. When fans on Twitter saw this news, they reacted accordingly:
This is such a dumb take for the Green Bay Packers 🤦🏻♂️
B/R basically saying the Packers should trade Rashan Gary just because he’s coming off of an injury and there’s another guy at his position under contract long-term in Green Bay, like Rashan ain’t that GUY LOL… pic.twitter.com/sdLrD7BRsd

Bleacher Report saying Packers should trade Rashan Gary.
How do we feel about this?
I don’t love the idea and think extending him is the best option, especially with Preston getting older. pic.twitter.com/L8CvnWL6r4
