If the Milwaukee Bucks fail to make a deep playoff run this 2024, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the team will be a major talking point.
The latest rumors revealed as much amid the Bucks’ perilous situation in the first round of the postseason.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Milwaukee Bucks Future in Doubt?
The Bucks are currently trailing the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the playoffs, although they made it 3-2 in Game 5 on Tuesday to keep their hopes alive.
Still, with Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard dealing with injuries, it is unknown if they can maintain their momentum without their two best players.
If they do end up getting eliminated by the Pacers, however, there will be concerns with regards to Antetounmpo’s future with the team. Prior to Tuesday’s game, NBA insider Marc Stein revealed that multiple teams will be keeping tabs on the Greek Freak and his feelings towards the team.
If Antetokounmpo were to show any sign of dissatisfaction and ask for a change of scenery, teams will be ready to pounce.
“You can rest assured that multiple teams around the league are poised to immediately begin tracking the Bucks’ offseason closely — monitoring, of course, is the go-to Twitter verb for these situations — to see how Giannis Antetokounmpo reacts to such a disappointing outcome,” Stein revealed on Substack.
To be fair, it’s not a surprise that there will be several pursuers for Antetokounmpo if he asks out. He’s still in his prime and remains an MVP candidate. He’ll be a game-changer for any squad he joins.
As for why he would want out of Milwaukee, NBA fans know that he has emphasized before that he wants to keep winning. He was definitely ecstatic to have Damian Lillard alongside him, but with the experiment not working, the possibility remains that he wants to get out of that situation.
Will Giannis Antetokounmpo Really Leave the Milwaukee Bucks?
For what it’s worth, it looks like there’s really smoke when it comes to a possible Giannis Antetokounmpo departure from the Milwaukee Bucks.
Prior to the start of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, NBA insider Brian Windhorst also shared that possibility, noting that another first-round exit for Milwaukee could prompt the exit of their best player.
“If they lose in the first round, the first person you’re worried about isn’t Dame, it’s Giannis. You want to make sure Giannis is still committed, and also when you talk about this first round, you got to worry about where Giannis’s calf is, if he’s going to be 100%. But if they go down in the first round again, and they have that disappointment in back-to-back years, I’m not sure where Giannis is going to be,” Windhorst explained, via Get Up.
Hopes are high that the Bucks will be able to survive the Indiana Pacers and keep their title dreams alive. If not, it will be interesting to see what happens with Antetokounmpo in the offseason.
