The Green Bay Packers have made the decision to move on from multiple veterans over the last few seasons who have had a profound impact on the franchise. That was evident more than ever this past off-season when the team decided to move on (via trade or free agency) from multiple veterans. In fact, the Packers became one of the youngest teams in the NFL.
According to a statement released this week, one former Packers star could very well hang up his cleats for good after this season.
Former Green Bay Packers Star Wide Receiver Announces He May Not Play Again After The 2023 Season
According to Zac Wassink of Yardbarker:
New York Jets wide receiver Randall Cobb turns 34 years old next summer and may be a former player by the time he celebrates that occasion.
“The big thing will be my family and my situation with my kids,” Cobb said about his future during a chat with Tom Rock of Newsday. “I’ll look back after this season and go through everything. I’ll take it for what it is and I’ll make the decision when I am ready to.”
Cobb and quarterback Aaron Rodgers were teammates with the Green Bay Packers from 2011 through the 2018 season and again during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns before the Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets this past spring. Cobb ultimately followed Rodgers to the Big Apple but largely became an afterthought after the 40-year-old signal-caller went down with a torn Achilles four snaps into the regular-season opener.
Rock mentioned that Cobb has thus far played in just 37% of the Jets’ offensive snaps this season. Cobb has recorded four catches for 35 yards and a touchdown playing alongside quarterbacks not named Rodgers.
Cobb Made Some Incredible Memories In Green Bay
Over the years, Rodgers has relied on the 5-foot-10 pass-catcher. During his tenures in Green Bay, Cobb caught 532 passes for 6,316 yards and 47 touchdowns. A total of 317 of his catches resulted in first downs for the Packers.
The 17-game regular season schedule in 2022 saw Cobb making 13 appearances and three starts. On 50 targets, he produced 417 receiving yards and one touchdown. 19 of his 34 grabs resulted in a first down.
If this was in fact Cobb’s last year in the league, he will forever be remembered for the incredible moments he brought Packers fans.
