The Green Bay Packers are headed to East Rutherford this weekend to take on the New York Giants in MetLife Stadium, but will not be full strength on offense due to Christian Watson being ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Watson, who sat the first three games of the season due to a hamstring injury, went down last Sunday late in the win versus the Kansas City Chiefs. After getting a crucial first down to help the Packers chew some clock, he was visibly in pain while grabbing his hamstring and needed assistance getting off the field. He did not suit up for practice once this week.
With Watson ruled out for Monday night’s contest, expect Jayden Reed and Dontavion Wicks to be afforded extra snaps in his absence. Watson not practicing all week could cause concern for future games as well, considering he has been dealing with this injury since week one.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Aaron Jones Questionable for Monday Night’s Matchup
Running Back Aaron Jones, who has not seen the field since spraining his MCL back in late November, got back to the practice field this week in a limited fashion and is questionable to return for Monday’s game.
If Jones isn’t able to suit up for the contest, expect AJ Dillon to take over the lead back role once again. Dillon had an efficient game last Sunday versus Kansas City, carrying the ball 18 times for 73 yards and catching his lone target for an extra 14 yards.
While Dillon dealt with a groin issue throughout practice this week, he practiced in full participation on Saturday and does not carry an injury designation for the contest.
If Aaron Jones is Ruled Out, A Veteran Running Back May Get a Shot for Green Bay Packers
Kenyan Drake, a veteran in the league who has played for multiple teams throughout his career, signed with the Packers practice squad earlier this week. Drake has most recently played for the Baltimore Ravens, where he filled a hole last season with running backs JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards on the sidelines with injuries.
Drake has rushed for over 3800 yards and 33 touchdowns in his career and has shown big play ability ever since he was drafted to the Miami Dolphins back in 2016. If Aaron Jones is set to miss another game, expect Drake to be called up for Monday night’s matchup.
Green Bay needs this win versus New York in order to keep their playoff push alive. They are currently tied for second on the NFC North Standings with the Minnesota Vikings at a 6-6 record. Coverage for Monday’s game will start at 8:15 PM Eastern Time on ABC.
