The Green Bay Packers have had an uncharacteristically active 2024 free agency. With the early signings of Xavier McKinney and Josh Jacobs, as well as the re-signings of AJ Dillon and Keisean Nixon. Despite the early activity, the Green Bay Packers have been more dormant towards the later stages of free agency. With multiple positions needing addressing for depth like safety and cornerback, none stick out quite as much as linebacker.
The Green Bay Packers have first-round pick in 2022 still on the roster in Quay Walker, who has continued to portray the characteristics and abilities of a starting linebacker but has struggled to bring together through a full season. The rest of the roster is far more unproven and has less of a pedigree, so there’s plenty of room to bring in a quality-tested lb to fill the gaps. Unfortunately for the Green Bay Packers, the last of those are being signed by the day.
The Green Bay Packers Miss Out On Jerome Baker After Signing With The Seattle Seahawks
Jerome Baker was a third-round pick in 2018 for the Miami Dolphins and spent the first six years of his career playing at a high level. After going into free agency at 27 years old, Baker signed a one-year 7 million dollar deal with the Seattle Seahawks.

Baker has played an integral role for the Miami Dolphins in his career typically finding himself at the starting linebacker role. The 6’2 225lb speedster has put together multiple 100+ tackle seasons and posted an impressive 78 PFF grade in 2022. He has put 587 tackles, two interceptions returned for touchdowns, 21 pass deflections, and 21.5 sacks on his stat sheet in his career.
In two games against the Green Bay Packers, he has struggled, obtaining only four tackles and no wins.
Jerome Baker was positionally coached by the Green Bay Packers’ current LB coach Anthony Campanile when they were together in Miami. The Green Bay Packers certainly know this, if general manager Brian Gutekunst decided to shop for him he would have asked Campanile. Whether his review was good, bad, or neutral could have made all of the difference or none of the difference with Gute’s decision. Regardless he is off the board, and the Green Bay Packers will need to turn towards other solutions for the questionable Linebacker depth.
