Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert has made a great transition into an analyst role. While he covers the whole league, he takes a special interest in the Packers. After the devastating loss to the Denver Broncos, Benkert defended Jordan Love and called out the team’s wide receivers.
I see a lot of Jordan Love bashing today, and it’s unwarranted. If the receiver fights back through contact on the last play and draws a PI (like any vet receiver would do) the packers would have had a chip shot field goal to win the game.

Former Green Bay Packers QB Kurt Benkert On Wide Receivers
In a very long post on the app formerly known as Twitter, Benkert called out the lack of help that Love is getting from his receivers.
“I see a lot of Jordan Love bashing today, and it’s unwarranted. If the receiver fights back through contact on the last play and draws a PI (like any vet receiver would do) the packers would have had a chip shot field goal to win the game”
His criticism is that the receivers are not doing enough to help the young quarterback. Had the receiver fought for the ball, there is a high likelihood of a penalty which would’ve set up an easy field goal. This is similar to last week where Christian Watson took criticism for not fighting for the ball on a couple of occasions including the last play. Benkert went on to talk about how Love is having a different experience than Aaron Rodgers had.

Different Players At Different Times
“But he also had vet guys – his guys – ALL around him that played at an intellectually high level with him,” Benkert said of Rodgers. Veterans help in so many ways. They make nuanced plays that can help a team win. Management decided to run with a group of pass-catchers that have little to no experience. Their inexperience is showing and makes it almost impossible to properly evaluate Love. Is Love struggling because he is having trouble processing the offense? It is hard to determine when receivers are running into each other and not making the small plays to help out their quarterback.

The good news for Jordan Love and the rest of the team is that there is plenty of time to turn things around. We’ve seen teams improve throughout the season and the hope is that the receivers can improve and help Love. If not, the Packers may be looking to sign a veteran receiver in the offseason.
