The Green Bay Packers are staring at a 3-6 record so far in 2023 and, barring an improbable playoff run, they will soon have to turn their focus to the 2024 season. This past off-season saw the Packers become one of the youngest teams in the NFL by way of trades and choosing to not re-sign veteran free agents.
When that decision was made it was understood that growing pains would be apart of the 2023 season. However, not many anticipated the offense not being able to average more than 20 points a game. If the Packers’ young offense doesn’t give the front office confidence between now and the end of the season, could the decision be made to invest in a new QB1 and WR1?
The Green Bay Packers Find Their Version Of Joe Burrow And Ja’Marr Chase In Bold Mock Draft

Freddie Boston of Fansided brought to light a fairly bold and interesting mock draft idea:
Here we go. The Packers don’t land one of the top quarterback prospects on Day 1, but they use one of their two second-round picks on LSU’s Jayden Daniels.
Considering the incredible season he is having, Daniels is likely flying up draft boards. He has thrown for 3,164 yards, 30 touchdowns, and only four interceptions while rushing for an unbelievable 918 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games this year.
“Daniels has completely reworked his game in the pocket, dicing up defenses with his quick processing ability, anticipation, smooth mechanics, accuracy, and situational precision,” writes Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network.
According to ESPN, Daniels became the first player in FBS history to throw for 350 yards and rush for 200 yards in the same game last week. It was a record-breaking performance, and one that should put him on the Packers’ radar in the upcoming draft. He is a playmaker and continues to turn heads this season.
The LSU quarterback could force his way into the first-round conversation. That’s how impressive he has been. But Daniels was available at No. 38 overall using the mock draft simulator, making it an opportunity too good to pass up for the Packers.
Bostons’ Mock Draft Doesn’t Stop There

Boston continued on the LSU trend with his mock draft:
The Packers find their quarterback with their first second-round pick. Now, they add one of his top targets at LSU, wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.
Malik Nabers is a potential first-round option for Green Bay, but teammate Thomas will also enter the NFL with huge upside. According to SportsCenter, the two have combined for more receiving yards and touchdowns through nine games this year than Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase put up for LSU in 2019.
Thomas has incredible size at 6-foot-4, which is matched by an unbelievable combination of speed and athleticism.
“The physical gifts are comically good. Thomas Jr. is blessed with the kind of raw tools you typically only see with a user-created player on Madden. He’s big. He’s long. He’s explosive. He’s got good long speed,” writes Kyle Crabbs of Athlon Sports.
And the best part? He already has great chemistry with Jayden Daniels, having caught 51 passes for 918 yards and 13 touchdowns this season.
The Packers need a WR1. Jayden Reed has shown star potential in the slot, while Dontayvion Wicks continues to impress and deserves more opportunities. Romeo Doubs is a reliable target, but Christian Watson has been unable to back up a promising rookie season.
Would The Packers Actually Move On From Jordan Love After 2023?

In my opinion, the answer is most likely no. No matter how the Packers finish the season, I would be surprised if they give up on Jordan Love after one (starting) season. The coaching staff has observed the quarterback’s growth during his time on the team. Despite the team’s hopes, they didn’t expect a Super Bowl victory in his first year starting. Their main focus was to see enough to commit beyond 2023.
It took Aaron Rodgers three years after taking over the starting job for the Packers to lead the team to a Super Bowl victory. I think they’ll give Love at least that long to prove he’s the right guy for Green Bay. Furthermore, the Packers added many weapons that are approximately his age around Love. In the coming years, these weapons are expected to grow alongside Love.
With all of that being said, if the Packers see an opportunity too good to pass up regarding a QB-WR duo, would they consider it?
