Green Bay Packers fans had a great first impression from their new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. His introductory press conference left fans feeling extremely excited for the new-look Packers defense. He also highlighted a few important positions within the type of defense he likes to run.
One of those positions is Safety. Someone who can “erase things.” As it turns out, there is a free agent Safety who has direct ties to Hafley.
New Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley Coach One Free Agent In College
According to Freddie Boston of Fansided:
One player who makes a lot of sense is free agent Jordan Fuller. The former sixth-round pick became a key starter in the Los Angeles Rams’ defense. Fuller makes game-changing plays—he intercepted three passes and forced three fumbles in 2023.
We already know Fuller would work well in the Packers’ new scheme. He worked with Hafley at Ohio State, and Fuller is a fan. Speaking to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman, Fuller spoke highly of Hafley.
“I think his superpower is his mind and how he sees the game and how he understands the game,” said Fuller. “His in-game adjustments and him having us ready for certain looks that offenses would give us and stuff like that, it really felt like he gave us a winning edge.”
The Packers should make Fuller one of their top free-agency targets. Pro Football Focus projects that he will sign a two-year deal worth an average of $4.63 million annually. That works.
Jordan Fuller Could Be A Huge Addition To The Packers Defense
Fullers’ 2022 season was limited to just three games due to injury. However, 2023 was a huge year for the 25-year-old Safety. He tied his career high in interceptions (3) and had the second most tackles on the team (94). He was also voted team captain for the second time in four seasons by his teammates.
With the new league year starting on March 13th, the 2020 sixth-round draft pick will be an unrestricted free agent.
Fuller has been a valuable piece to the Rams defense for years. His leadership on the Packers defense would go a long way and is likely exactly what Hafley is looking for.
