Green Bay Packers achieved a much-needed, crucial win against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday night. Despite the 33-point performance, there was a collective holding of breath as one of the emerging Green Bay Packers receivers could be seen on the sidelines and ended up not returning to the field to play.
Green Bay Packers Latest Update
According to Ian Rapoport, Green Bay Packers receiver Jayden Reed received negative X-ray results from his rib concern but will continue to be monitored as the staff will conduct further tests. As of right now, his status is in doubt, and it is not looking good for him to be able to play against the Chicago Bears.
Though clearly battling through discomfort and soreness, Reed took to social media to let Green Bay Packers fans know that he was “doing great”, after responding to a comment from his New Year’s Eve post on social media.
The extent of the injury is not known at this time, but it is an area that has been bothering him for some time now as he was questionable to even play against the Minnesota Vikings game itself.
Green Bay Packers Great Performance
The injury to Reed occurred in a two-touchdown game that saw much-needed impact from the wide receivers. The rookie wide receiver had a large impact in his limited playing time against the Vikings. Amassing six catches, 89 receiving yards, and two touchdowns Reed was putting on a great performance for the Green Bay Packers.
On the year Reed has 60 total receptions, to go along with 681 yards, and double-digit touchdowns with 10. This game saw him pass former Green Bay Packers receiver Sterling Sharpe as the highest-receiving leader among Packers rookies, which was set at 55.
Perhaps his greatest play of the game was his touchdown that came as the second half was closing. On a crossing route from the Vikings 25-yard line, Reed caught a short crossing route from Jordan Love. While escaping from the coverage, Reed not only ran past defenders but also dragged would-be tacklers with him into the endzone for a spectacular score.
His status will need to continue to be monitored as it is not looking good that he will be able to play against the Bears.
Green Bay Packers Win And In
The matchup in Lambeau has come to a highly sought-after, and at times throughout the season, unexpected win and in scenario. Without the prospects of having Reed someone else will need to step up and fill in the void of being able to make big plays.
While the Chicago Bears have been largely inconsistent all year, and have often given opposing offenses second chances, this is a team that cannot be taken lightly.
With how this team has played in previously thought-of easy wins against teams with weak rosters, this could be a potential letdown opportunity if this young Green Bay Packers team does not attack this game with full effort and attention.
While that is hopefully not likely with an impending playoff on the horizon, having Reed in the mix would surely help the cause.
