The Green Bay Packers shook the NFL world this past week when reports surfaced they were “in” on a possible Jonathan Taylor trade. While the Indianapolis Colts decided not to trade Taylor for now, the door isn’t completely closed on the possibility. It seems as though the Dolphins and Packers were the two teams to have serious talks with the Colts about a trade, however, reports surfacing this week suggest the Dolphins are officially out of the race.
The Miami Dolphins Back Out Of Jonathan Taylor Trade Talks, Leaving The Green Bay Packers As The Possible “Last Team Standing”
Throughout the offseason, there have been many trade rumors involving the Dolphins and running backs, but they have been unable to pull off any of them. There were recently some pretty serious conversations between the Dolphins and Colts regarding running back Jonathan Taylor, but they backed out after the Colts asked for star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
It has also been rumored that the Dolphins have turned their sights to the free agent market for a running back instead of trading for one. This news bodes well for the Packers’ chances of trading for Jonathan Taylor.
Now I am not going to say that the Packers’ chances grew exponentially. It is still unlikely the Colts trade away Jonathan Taylor (although we’ve seen crazier things happen), however, if they do, the Packers may be the only “serious” team currently left in conversations. According to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports:
I’m told both the Dolphins and Packers were both willing to give running back Jonathan Taylor a contract that placed him among the highest-paid running backs in the NFL entering this season, per source.
