Green Bay Packers icon Brett Favre has no intention of going down without a fight. In the first place, we have no idea if the Hall of Fame quarterback will actually be brought down by this multi-million dollar lawsuit that he’s facing amid scandalous allegations involving misappropriated welfare funds.
Either way, Favre is making life difficult for the lawyers of the Mississippi Department of Human Services as they look to prove the 54-year-old’s involvement in the misappropriation of up to $8 million.
Green Bay Packers Icon Brett Favre Fires Back
According to reports, Favre has refused to submit his tax returns to the court in regard to his ongoing civil lawsuit. Lawyers from the opposing camp have now reached out to a judge to issue a subpoena that will require Favre to turn over the said documents.
“MDHS has propounded a total of twenty-seven requests for production to Favre,” MDHS lawyers wrote in the Monday filing (h/t A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports). “Favre has raised multiple objections to every request.”
Lawyers are also reportedly looking to unearth any and all incriminating text messages and emails involving Favre and their alleged scheme to defraud the MDHS. This has become the largest public scandal in the history of the state, and it’s quite shocking that Favre has seen his name dragged into this massive mess.
“Favre’s tax returns are relevant and probative to both MDHS’s claims and Favre’s defenses,” MDHS lawyers wrote. “MDHS and Favre dispute whether Favre agreed to fund the construction of the volleyball facility prior to his signing a written pledge. The amounts Favre paid towards the construction of the facility — which presumably would be reflected on his tax returns — are relevant to that dispute. The tax return also may contain relevant information regarding payments Favre made to or received from any defendant.”
For his part, Brett Favre has consistently denied any and all involvement in the misappropriated funds.
