The Green Bay Packers are looking for any and every possible way to take their roster from a playoff contender to Super Bowl contender in 2024. It was Aaron Rodgers’ third season starting (2010) when he took the Lombardi Trophy back to Lambeau Field. Jordan Love will try to do it in his second year starting this up coming season.
The Packers have put together a very talented group of weapons around Love to make that happen. This off-season has largely been about the defense getting better. Now, April 8th could be another big day for this defense.
April 8th Will Say A Lot For The Green Bay Packers
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean has been cleared for football activities and will hold an individual pro day for teams on Monday, April 8th. DeJean is widely considered to be one of the best aand most versatile defensive backs in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Cooper DeJean Could Be The Perfect Target For The Packers
The Bleacher Report Scouting Department said the Packers would be smart to make this move:
“The youth movement on the Green Bay Packers offense is extremely exciting. As such, general manager Brian Gutekunst can turn his attention to the other side of the ball, which is transitioning to a different scheme under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who should turn up the pressure quite a few notches after Joe Barry’s tenure.
Green Bay already features Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes and Keisean Nixon at cornerback. Alexander has played 53 percent of the Packers games the last three seasons, though, and dealt with back and shoulder injuries during the 2023 campaign.
Stokes played in all of three games last season, and the organization still has a decision to make regarding his fifth-year rookie option. The selection of Iowa’s Cooper DeJean is as much of a safety net as it is adding a premium athlete and quality defender.”
The Packers will be looking for versatile defensive backs to play under Hafley. DeJean fits that mold perfectly.
Hafley has already stressed how important the secondary is to the defense he likes to run. It would be very surprising to see the Packers pass on him if he is available when they are on the clock.
