The Green Bay Packers own the 25th selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. Many mock drafts have them selecting a cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft. The NFL Draft is just three weeks away from Thursday in Detroit, Michigan, and it is unknown what the plans are for the Packers for those selections.
They will have 11 picks in this draft. It will be interesting to see what general manager Brian Gutekunst decides to do. Some of the needs are safety, cornerback, offensive line, and running back. The defensive scheme has changed and they need help on the back end despite signing a couple of free agents and it will be the difference between winning next season and not.
Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports Has the Green Bay Packers Selecting Cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry From Alabama With the 25th Overall Pick in the 2024 NFL Draft
The Packers need help at cornerback no doubt. Jaire Alexander has been dealing with injury over the past year and so has Erik Stokes. Kool-Aid McKinstry could be a day-one starter in the NFL. Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports said about the Green Bay Packers possibly drafting him saying:
“The Packers have a history of only drafting defensive players in the first round, so I’m not going to break tradition here; Alabama thinks Kool-Aid McKinstry has legit NFL cover skills — the only question will be his deep speed — and he answered those questions at his pro day when he ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash. Added bonus: he can be an asset in the return game, too.”
Over the course of the college football season with the Alabama Crimson Tide, he recorded 32 total tackles and seven pass deflections, along with zero interceptions. McKinstry and Terron Arnold, who is also projected to be a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, were the cornerback duo for the football program. Alabama made it to the college football playoff this season before they lost to the Michigan Wolverines in overtime.
They are both quality starting cornerbacks, but McKinstry might be the better one over Arnold. Kool-Aid McKinstry is 6’1″ and weighs 195 lbs. A pairing of McKinstry and Jaire Alexander for the Packers would be a very good duo as long as they both can stay healthy. This may not be the only selection Green Bay uses on a cornerback because they need more depth at the position. This would be a very good choice with this pick and it would not be a reach at all.
