The Green Bay Packers are looking to keep their Wild Card hopes alive in Week 12 against the Detroit Lions. After their huge win against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Packers suddenly find themselves just one spot out of the seventh (and final) seed in the NFC playoffs.
The Lions (8-2), on the other hand, are looking to keep pace with the Philadelphia Eagles (9-1) for the top seed in the NFC. As the Packers are preparing for their matchup, they got some pretty significant news at running back.
The Green Bay Packers Will Have A.J. Dillon As A Full Go Against The Detroit Lions On Thanksgiving
According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report:
Packers RB AJ Dillon, listed as questionable, (groin), is expected to play Thursday vs the Lions, sources tell Bleacher Report.
Green Bay enters its Thanksgiving game against Detroit without Aaron Jones (knee).
Dillon will serve as the Packers’ top back against the Lions, and while his production against the Chargers was limited (14 carries for 29 yards, four receptions for 32 yards), he has been playing his best football of late.
Dillon enters Thursday with 117 rushes for 405 yards and a touchdown (3.5 yards per carry) and 16 receptions for 106 yards. However, over his past three games, he has carried the rock 32 times for 139 yards (a 4.3-yard average). He also had his longest run of the season (40 yards against Pittsburgh on Nov. 12) and caught six passes for 46 yards.
Dillon has certainly been inconsistent at times, however, his production as of late provides some confidence in the running game even without Jones. If the Packer are able to get Dillon going early, it could set up play action passes and jet sweeps with Jayden Reed.
Nonetheless, it’ll be a tall task for the Packers offense as the Lions rush defense ranks sixth In the league is yards allowed per rush (3.8). The Packers also brought in Patrick Taylor and James Robinson this week, it is very possible the Packers will utilize one (or both) of those running backs in against the Lions in third-down situations.
