The Green Bay Packers are in the midst of a new era. Their franchise-changing trade that sent Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets ushered in a new, younger, Green Bay Packers team. The Green Bay Packers, in one off-season, went from one of the oldest teams in the NFL to one of the youngest. Multiple veterans such as Allen Lazard, Marcedes Lewis, Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb, Mason Crosby, Dean Lowry, and Robert Tonyan all left the team via free agency or trade. Today, the Green Bay Packers were named in one more trade that would ship another veteran off. This trade was labeled as one “they can’t refuse.”
Green Bay Packers Named In Aaron Jones Trade That Would Be “Too Good To Pass Up”
An article by Freddie Boston highlighted an AI generated trade scenario that is not only realistic, but could be beneficial for the Green Bay Packers:
We asked ChatGPT to create a hypothetical Aaron Jones trade. AI responded with an offer the Packers couldn’t turn down.
ChatGPT had Green Bay trading Jones to the Baltimore Ravens with the Packers receiving a 2024 second-round pick and running back Gus Edwards.
If the Packers’ plan is to move on from Jones next offseason, landing a premium draft pick in a trade would be a huge win. They would also add some running back depth with Gus Edwards.
Edwards is in the final year of his contract. According to Over The Cap, the Packers would pay $1.08 million on the salary cap by trading for Edwards.
He is an experienced running back, having rushed for 2,585 yards and 13 touchdowns in 52 career games.
Perhaps the Packers would prefer to just receive the draft pick to save the cap space, but that’s the only potential fault of the trade ChatGPT came up with.
Baltimore would help its Super Bowl chances by adding a star running back.
The Ravens could have a dominant offense with Lamar Jackson at quarterback, Jones and J.K. Dobbins at running back, and a receiving trio of Odell Beckham, Zay Flowers, and Mark Andrews.
The Packers win by adding another second-round pick in next year’s draft. If they could get a second for Jones, Green Bay would have to seriously consider it.
This trade would land Green Bay four premium picks in the first two rounds of next year’s draft. They already have one first round and two second rounds picks (one of those second round picks becomes a first if Aaron Rodgers plays 65% of his snaps in 2023) next year. The biggest problem? Aaron Jones has consistently proven himself to be the best weapon on the Green Bay Packers’ offense year after year. Moving on from him would be costly and the Packers would have to have an immediate backup plan.
