The Green Bay Packers are one of the most beloved and fervent franchises in all of sports. It’s very hard to rank how passionate a fanbase is, but considering how much of the Pack shows up and shows out at away games.
What can be measured is franchise valuation. While how much money the owner has and invests into the team matters, what the prices for everything are. etc. all matter, valuation is a good mark on how much demand the team has with its tickets and merchandise.
Sportico just released its highly anticipated list of all team valuations of the 4 major sports. Once again, all the common suspects rank at the top, but the rest of the list changed as usual. That includes the Green Bay Packers, who dropped to 28th this year. What gives?
How Valuable Are 2024 NFL Teams Compared To The Other Major Sports?
The average NFL team is worth around $5 billion, while other major sports leagues have teams worth a few billion on average.
At the top of the list are the usual suspects. The Yankees, Knicks, and the Lakers are all in the top 5 and worth nearly $10 billion each. Surprisingly enough, the Golden State Warriors were listed at #2, even with their dynasty well past its prime (and 1 title in 5 years).
Of course, the Packer’s favorite postseason punching bag the Cowboys was recorded as the most valuable sports franchise, as it is almost every year.
Where Do The Green Bay Packers Rank Among The Most Valuable Sports Franchises?
The Packers were ranked 28th on this list, which puts it at the bottom of the upper tier of the 100+ major sports franchises. As far as Midwest teams go, there aren’t many that are ahead of the Packers.
As a matter of fact, the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions were both in the bottom 10. As popular as those teams are, their lack of success and suspect ownership has dragged them down.
Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks were ranked 23rd among all NBA teams, and the Brewers were ranked 20th among all MLB franchises. Considering that all 3 of these teams are technical “small-market”, it’s not too surprising nor disappointing. They’re perenially championship contenders, and that’s all that matters.
