There has been a lot of talk surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s recent decision to sign a contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks. This came out of nowhere and took a lot of folks by surprise, especially considering how Antetokounmpo himself stated earlier this summer that he was going to wait until next year to sign his new deal.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Milwaukee Bucks Extension Draws All Sorts of Reactions
ESPN guru Brian Windhorst, who was one of the so-called experts who predicted that Giannis would not sign an extension with the Bucks, had a very interesting take on the former back-to-back MVP’s sudden change of heart. Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of First Take, Windy said that he believed Antetokounmpo’s decision was “questionable.”
“So Giannis gave up a marginal amount of leverage to lock in some financial security and set up his contract for the rest of his career,” Windhorst said (h/t Andrew Gould of The Spun). “Absolutely not something that needed to happen for the Bucks, so a huge win for them locking him down. And a vote of confidence for this team going into this regular season.”
Stephen A Smith let his colleague finish before issuing his rebuttal. As always, ESPN’s golden boy showed no mercy as he ripped Windhorst’s argument apart with Stephen A’s trademark savagery:
“When they told me they were going to ask me this question, I have to confess to you that I said for the first time, ‘I think that Brian Windhorst needs to be drug tested,'” Smith said. “The reason why I came to that conclusion, Windy, is because all I could see was three years, $186 million. You divide that by three and it comes up to $62 million a year. What the hell you mean it’s questionable? There’s no questionable decision about $62 million a year.”
The man has a point.
Windhorst has already been trolled all over social media for his inaccurate prediction on Antetokounmpo’s future with the Bucks, and apparently, Smith wanted in on the action as well.
