Corbin Burnes Could Make History (Again) Today vs Padres

The Milwaukee Brewers may have dropped a frustrating home series to the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates, but that did not stop them from claiming a road victory in Game One against the highly touted Padres.  The Brewers finally got Brandon Woodruff some run support and the staff ace got his first win.  On Tuesday night, they will turn to Corbin Burnes, who has had an absolutely historic start to his season.  He has a chance to make even more history tonight in San Diego.

    Brewers’ Starting Pitcher: Corbin Burnes

Just how good has Corbin Burnes been?  Well, he’s been doing things that baseball hasn’t seen in over 100 years.

This is very impressive work, and he could make even more history tonight.  The Major League record for most strikeouts to start a season before issuing a walk is 35.  That record was set by Adam Wainwright back in 2013.  Burnes needs just six strikeouts without a walk tonight to break the record.

He could very well do it, too.  Teams have not had much of an answer for Burnes, and he is starting to get some attention from the national media.

The only Padres player to have a hit off of Burnes is Victor Caratini, who used to play for the Cubs.  He has two hits, including a home run, in four at bats against Burnes.  The only other Padres that have faced Burnes are Eric Hosmer, Manny Machado, and Fernando Tatis Jr.  They are a combined 0/3.

    Padres’ Starting Pitcher: Chris Paddack

    Corbin Burnes

Chris Paddack enters play today with a 1-1 record and a 4.15 ERA.  He has given up three runs in each of his three starts.  His control has not been consistent, but he has been able to limit the number of runs crossing the plate.  No current Brewers’ hitter has a hit off of Paddack.  Only Hiura, Narvaez, Peterson, and Vogelbach have faced him.  They are a combined 0/11.
