The Milwaukee Brewers have cycled through their fair share of third string catchers over the years. Jacob Nottingham previously had several bouts with the Crew, Luke Maile appeared in 15 games in 2021, Alex Jackson five games with the team in 2022, and Payton Henry started the 2023 season on the 40-man roster but never made an appearance before being removed.

Of these catchers mentioned Luke Maile ended up spending the 2022 season with the Cleveland Guardians. He then signed with the Cincinnati Reds and after a good 2023 campaign he has officially re-signed with the team. This new contract will keep him there for at least one more year.
Former Milwaukee Brewers catcher Luke Maile has re-signed with the Cincinnati Reds.

During his first season with the Reds Luke Maile appeared in 78 games. He split time with Curt Casali and Tyler Stephenson, but slashed .235/.308/.391 with six home runs and 25 runs batted in. Defensively he was solid but not outstanding in several categories.
The Reds seemed to like the three catcher tandem plan for it also allowed Tyler Stephenson to stay healthy by playing first base and get at-bats as the designated hitter. Luke Maile will now get another opportunity to help the team in a limited role in 2023 as he signed a $3.5 MM deal with a 2025 club option for the same price.

2024 will be the first time that Luke Maile has remained in the same organization for the second consecutive season since 2019. He previously spent the 2017-2019 seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays and the 2015 and 2016 seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays.
