It was an exciting week in Milwaukee as the Brewers battled the Los Angeles Dodgers. Here is a complete recap of the series and what to expect next from the Brew Crew.
Brewers vs. Dodgers Game One:
Final Score: 9-3 Brewers
Freddy Peralta got the ball for game one against the Dodgers and continued his stellar start to the season. The right-hander tossed six innings of one-run ball and picked up the win.
Milwaukee put on their hitting shoes in game one and scored nine runs. Joey Wiemer got it started with a three-run home run in the fifth inning and an RBI double the following inning. The Brewers took this momentum into the seventh inning and tacked on five more courtesy of Christian Yelich’s two-run single and Willy Adames’s three-run home run.
Brewers vs. Dodgers Game Two:
Final Score: 6-2 Dodgers
Eric Lauer was on the bump in game two and was not sharp, to say the least. The Southpaw only mustered 3.2 innings and allowed four runs before getting pulled from the game. Unfortunately, the Brewers’ bats remained mostly quiet as well. Milwaukee mustered just two runs courtesy of Rowdy Tellez and Victor Caratini, who hit solo home runs in the seventh inning.
The one positive from this game was from Gus Varland, who tossed a scoreless frame plus one more out in his return to the bullpen.
Brewers vs. Dodgers Game Three:
Final Score: 8-1 Dodgers
Wade Miley got the start in game three. The southpaw had his first stinker of the season. When it was all said and done, Miley allowed six runs over five runs. This caused Miley’s ERA to shoot up from 2.31, one of the best in baseball, to 3.60.
The Brewers’ lineup mustered just one lone run courtesy of William Contreras’ solo shot in the bottom of the fourth inning.
A few other notes include Colin Rea making an appearance out of the bullpen. Rea went just two-thirds of an inning and allowed a run. However, Rea coming out of the bullpen today likely means he’s out of the starting rotation. If this is the case, the Brewers will be running a five-man rotation with Adrian Houser instead of Rea.
Overall this was another underwhelming series against the Dodgers for the Brew Crew. The pitching outside of game one was poor, to say the least, and the bats didn’t produce enough to make up for that. Let’s hope the Brewers figure out these struggles before their next series against the Royals.
