The Brewers can spend a total of $6,366,900 in this year’s intentional signing period. These three signings total $4,200,000. They do not have to spend all of this and international bonus slots can be traded at this time as well.
Here is MLB pipelines breakdown of each player that the Brewers signed to kick off the intentional signing period.
Yophery Rodriguez – Age 17 – Bats Left – Throws Left
Rodriguez is one of the best pure hitters in the class.
The hit tool is advanced, and he looks mature beyond his years when he steps into the batter’s box. He has a real good feel for the strike zone. From his outstanding makeup and physical projection to his work ethic, it’s easy to see why scouts find Rodriguez an attractive prospect.
His tools are still developing, but that’s normal for prospects his age. What’s uncommon is how well he puts the bat on the ball consistently and with authority. There still room for more power and that could come as he develops and grows physically.
He will start in center field and should stay there as he develops.
Rodriguez trains with former Major League infielder Carlos Guillen. The Brewers have shown interest in him. Guillen is a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.
Filippo Di Turro – Age 17 – Bats Switch – Throws Right
The switch-hitting Di Turri is an exciting prospect to watch and shows lots of potential on both sides of the ball.
The first thing you notice about the teen is his smooth and mechanically sound swing from both sides of the plate. He makes hard contact to all fields and more power could be on the way. He’ll improve at the plate — and in every aspect of his game — once he signs with a team and receives daily instruction at their academy.
On defense, the shortstop makes the routine and difficult plays look easy. He’s defensively sound and will likely stay at the position as he develops because of his soft hands, good footwork and strong arm. He’s been praised for his makeup and work ethic. The teen trains with the Blasini Academy. The Brewers are among the teams who have shown strong interest in him. Blasini Academy is a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.
Kevin Ereu – Age 16 – Bats Right – Throws Right
There’s a level of excitement Ereu brings when he steps on the field.
The athletic teenager plays with flair, and his passion for the game shows on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Ereu has a chance to be an above-average shortstop because of a solid defensive package and upside. He has good hands, an emerging arm and consistently makes the routine plays because of his advanced footwork.
At the plate, he shows solid raw power and the ability to hit the ball to all fields with authority. He can also drive the ball out of the ballpark. Overall, he’s been praised for his advanced approach at the plate and knowledge of the strike zone.
Ereu is from Venezuela. The Brewers have shown interest in him.
