With just under a quarter of the regular season to go, the Brewers remaining schedule has them set up for success. With 39 games left on the slate, Milwaukee plays twice as many at American Family Field than on the road. (26-13) Of the 13 series remaining, just four of those are against teams with a winning record. Here are some highlights of the schedule:
Next Dozen Games
After a much needed day off today, the Brewers return home for six games against the 54-70 Cubs and 47-77 Pirates. Then it’s off to Phoenix and Denver for six games against the 56-67 Diamondbacks and 54-71 Colorado Rockies. This is a big opportunity for Milwaukee to string together some wins and possibly take over the final Wild Card spot.
Four Games Left With St. Louis
Currently sitting five and a half games behind St. Louis in the division, the Brewers have a pair of two-game series left with the Cardinals. Both games at Busch Stadium on September 13th and 14th are sandwiched between days off for Milwaukee. Exactly two weeks later the Brewers get them at home for two, which is also preceded with an off day. Winning three or all four of these games would put a dent in the Cardinals NL Central lead.
New York, New York
In mid-September, both first place teams from New York come to Milwaukee. Aaron Judge and the Bronx Bombers begin the home-stand on the 16th, followed with their Subway Series rival Mets making their annual trip to Wisconsin. These six games should have a playoff atmosphere and will be a huge test for the Brewers.
Final Seven Sprint
The Brewers play their final seven games of the regular season at home. The 54-70 Marlins come in for three, followed by a four game series against Arizona to close out the schedule.
Just a game and a half separates Milwaukee from the final Wild Card spot, with San Diego currently occupying that position. With a possible game 163 tiebreaker no longer a part of MLB, the Brewers would have to finish a game ahead of the Padres since the Friars took the regular season series against the Brew Crew. The remaining schedule sets up nicely for that. Reinforcements are on the way as well.
