Matt Arnold and the Milwaukee Brewers have made another roster addition through trade. This time they have acquired Bryse Wilson in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Trevor Kelly was designated for assignment as a result.

Wilson was DFA’d by the Pirates last week. The cost to acquire him was cash. At 25 years old, the right-handed pitcher has worked primarily as a starter. He will join a long list of new Brewers pitchers acquired this off-season. Given that the Brewers are pretty well set with starting pitchers and the fact that he is out of minor league options, it seems likely that he will compete for a bullpen spot.
Who is Bryse Wilson? How has he performed throughout his career and what is his pitch repertoire?
Wilson was drafted in the fourth round of the MLB draft by the Atlanta Braves. He was drafted in 2016 and made his major league debut in 2018. During the 2020 season, he was most famously known for being thrust into the middle of the Braves vs Dodgers NLCS match up. During game four, he operated as the starter and out-dueled Clayton Kershaw as he pitched six innings and allowed just one run.
In 2021, he struggled and was eventually traded to the Pirates at the trade deadline. The Brewers have faced him a few times. Overall his career numbers consist of 232 innings pitched and a 5.54 ERA. On the mound, Wilson throws a low 90’s fastball along with a slider, change up, and curve ball.
Here is what Matt Arnold had to say about acquiring Wilson.
“He is a former top prospect with good pedigree and has the opportunity to compete for a spot on our Opening Day roster. He is still young with Major League experience as both a starter and reliever, and we believe he can be a solid depth addition to our pitching unit.”
