Breaking: Packers Lose Offensive Weapon To Injured Reserve

The injury bug consistently seems to attack the Packers’ locker room this year.  Whether it is to injured reserve, or just on a week-to-week basis.  This Packers team seems to continue to take hits.    24 hours before their match-up with the Washington Commanders, the Packers received news that they would be without one of their top offensive weapons.  Randall Cobb was placed on IR today.  The Packers’ second leading receiver so far through the 2022 NFL season.

Packers Lose Randall Cobb To IR

The Packers will be without Randall Cobb for at least four weeks.   An emotional Cobb was carted to the locker room with a towel over his head after he suffered the injury Sunday in the loss to the New York Jets. He said he has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.

“I felt something pop,” Cobb said. “And I thought, ‘This is the way it ends.’ It’s nice to have the good news and to know that I’ll be able to come back.”

The Packers were trying to avoid IR for the starting WR, but clearly, that didn’t happen.  Cobb is currently second on the team in receiving yards with 257.  He only trails Allen Lazard (285).  He has also hauled in 18 receptions on 26 targets.  Randall Cobb has certainly been a reliable outlet for 4-time MVP Quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

in a corresponding move, the Packers activated wide receiver Sammy Watkins off injured reserve. While Sammy Watkins and Randall Cobb have two different skill sets, hopefully getting Watkins back will be enough for this passing attack to wake up.  All the uncertainty at the wide receiver position has to make you question when/if Green Bay will attempt to trade for a wide receiver.
