The San Francisco 49ers got devastating news yesterday. After the team was just starting to get healthy, QB Jimmy Garoppolo went down with a foot injury. He is out for the season. The 49ers’ only other QB is “Mr. Irrelevant” Brock Purdy. While he played well on Sunday, many question whether he is the long-term answer. One NFL analyst, Robert Griffin III, thinks the 49ers should sign former Green Packers QB Kurt Benkert.
Well @KurtBenkert they need you!

Robert Griffin III Says the 49ers Should Sign QB Kurt Benkert
Robert Griffin III made it clear once the news broke who the 49ers should target. Kurt Benkert signed with the 49ers in the offseason but was released before the season began. This means he has familiarity with the offense on some level. The 49ers don’t need a lot from the QB position. The defense, led by Nick Bosa, has been dominant. The offense is full of weapons like Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, and Deebo Samuel. Benkert could come in and have plenty of help around him.
The 49ers’ Options Are Limited
The trade deadline has passed. The number of quarterbacks on the market is limited. Before the injury, many analysts, like Robert Griffin III, were putting the 49ers in the conversation for the best team in the NFC. Now, everything hinges on them getting at least decent quarterback play. Maybe Purdy is the answer, but there is a reason he was the last pick in the draft. Benkert would at least bring some veteran presence to the position.
If the 49ers want to try and stay in the Super Bowl conversation, they should absolutely listen to Robert Griffin III and give former Green Bay Packers Kurt Benkert a look. While I have no love for the 49ers, if Kurt Benkert leads them to a Super Bowl, I don’t think any Packers fan would be upset.
