It was announced awhile ago the Wisconsin Badgers would take part in the 2023 Fort Meyers Tip-Off. This tournament will take place on November 20 and 22. The Badgers are a part of four team field that consists of Virginia, West Virginia, and SMU. According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, the Badgers will face Virginia to open the tournament. Four team tournaments are common around the Thanksgiving holiday. This means West Virginia and SMU will be the other semifinal. Time of the game is still to be determined.
About Virginia
The Cavaliers have been one of the most consistent teams in college basketball for a handful of years now. Head coach Tony Bennett is one of the best coaches in the country as well. He does have ties to Wisconsin as he played his college basketball at UW-Green Bay and his dad coached the Badgers to the 2000 Final Four. A chunk of Badger fans have also called for Tony Bennett to replace Greg Gard at Wisconsin if that were to ever happen.
Virginia was upset in the first round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago as the four seed. They lost to 13 seed Furman on a last second shot. This is an interesting test for the Badgers. I believe these are the two best teams in this tournament and I expected Wisconsin to draw West Virginia while the Cavaliers would get SMU. It should be low scoring and low possession game. I would be surprised if this game got into the 70’s.
