The Wisconsin football staff received some pleasant news from one of their 2025 recruiting targets regarding his visit status.

Zay Gentry, a 2025 four-star corner back, announced he would schedule six upcoming official visits for the coming months. Among the programs who received an official visit, Gentry included the Wisconsin football program for a three-day trip. Gentry has held a scholarship offer from Wisconsin for quite some time now, and could become a larger part of the focus of the recruiting staff in the near future.

The Wisconsin football staff has been in search of a strong, physical corner back in the 2025 recruiting class, and may have found just their man. Zay Gentry, a Texas native, has been known for his speed and physical prowess on defense as he launches himself over receivers to make athletic plays. Gentry locks down his side of the field and forces opposing quarterbacks to make different reads.

Gentry finished last season with 35 solo tackles, three tackles for loss, one interception, one fumble recovery, and ten pass breakups. The corner back also appeared in the slot and as a blitzer for his team this past season, which truly showcased his versatility at the position.

Thus far into the recruitment of Gentry, Wisconsin football, Missouri, and Southern Methodist have been the top three programs for the recruit. SMU picked up an early crystal ball prediction for the recruit, but the Mustangs did not receive any scheduled visits from the corner back. Missouri will be the first program Gentry visits, however it will be an unofficial visit for the recruit.

Wisconsin Badgers Football: Could Gentry Become a Premier Wisconsin Corner?

There is no doubt that Gentry has the ability to become a top-level corner back at the collegiate level. However, at 165-pounds, the corner back will need to gain some weight and fully fill out his frame before reaching the next level. Gentry has surprisingly great strength for his size and rarely allows receivers to move him or win during hand fights. Gentry has the speed, intelligence, and ability to make a difference at the next level, but the question is when he will get his chance.

Gentry is an accomplished recruit and could become someone who the Badgers feel would play right when he arrives on campus. The corner back is also set to visit TCU, Baylor, and Nebraska, who all have fairly deep secondary rooms. Wisconsin football is approaching a mass exodus within their secondary room as many of their talented players are running out of eligibility.

Can the Wisconsin Football Staff Land Zay Gentry in the Near Future?

With one of their oldest position groups needing some future help, Wisconsin football could be working hard to make sure that Gentry becomes a Badger. At this point in time, Wisconsin will likely battle against Missouri and Nebraska for the corner back moving forward. The Cornhuskers have thoroughly improved their recruiting department over the past few seasons, and could be a serious threat for the Badgers.
