After looking at what Wisconsin Football has in the quarterback room this season, the running backs are next. Running back is arguably one of this rosterโ€™s best and strongest positions. All the significant playmakers from this group return with another year of experience. Hereโ€™s what Badgers fans can expect in the backfield this year with Braelon Allen returning for his sophomore season.

Wisconsin Football Starting RB: Braelon Allen

Wisconsin Football holds its strength at the running back position. We take a deep dive into the Badgers' RB room as Braelon Allen returns.

No doubt, this is Braelon Allenโ€™s job. The only question is whether he will be the bell cow or be in a platoon for the Badgers. Allen has quickly established himself as one of the best running backs in the country. Heโ€™s strong, invites contact, and is unstoppable once he hits the second level.

In 2021, Allen had 186 carries for 1,268 yards and 12 touchdowns. Whatโ€™s crazy is that he was the fourth strong back in the opener against Penn State. We really only saw him play special teams that game. Allen is the running back room leader and is becoming the next great Wisconsin Football back.

Wisconsin Football Backup RB: Chez Mellusi

Wisconsin Football holds its strength at the running back position. We take a deep dive into the Badgers' RB room as Braelon Allen returns.

If Chez Mellusi returns as good as last season, he will certainly get his share of reps. Mellusi was the starter until a season-ending injury against Rutgers. The Clemson transfer ran for 815 yards and five touchdowns in his first season of getting legitimate touches.

He was 1A while Allen was 1B last season. Because of how good Allen has become, we could see Mellusiโ€™s touches drop a little bit. However, heโ€™s a critical part of this offense and will play a significant role for Wisconsin Football this season.

    Isaac Guerendo and Julius Davis

Wisconsin Football holds its strength at the running back position. We take a deep dive into the Badgers' RB room as Braelon Allen returns.

We will also see Guerendo and Davis gets reps in the running back room too. However, a majority of playing time will come from special teams. Guerendo is coming off a season-ending injury as well. As a result, we got to see Julius Davis, who showed signs of potential. While we might see these two in blowout games, Wisconsin Football has excellent depth in the running back room.
