During their recent road trip, the Wisconsin football staff got the chance to visit a talented athlete who has risen on their recruiting boards.
Matty Augustine, a three-star 2025 offensive lineman from Connecticut, has been a premier recruiting target for the Wisconsin football staff. Augustine is considered to be one of the top recruits in the state of Connecticut and a top-50 tackle as well. The lineman had once been considered a reach for the Badgers, but now could find his way in Madison in the future.
Wisconsin Football Visits 2025 Lineman Matty Augustine, Impresses With New Staff Additions
After struggling in the trenches last season, Wisconsin football has gone a different direction as they attempt to revamp their blocking proficiency. In an effort to rebuild their offensive line room, Wisconsin football hired former Vanderbilt assistant AJ Blazek, who coached one of the top defensive line units in college football. The hiring of Blazek immediately changed the recruitment of plenty of players, including Augustine.
Augustine has held a scholarship offer from the Badgers since last May, but the Badgers have yet to make a serious impact on the recruit. Michigan, Notre Dame, and Penn State have been the major leaders in the recruitment of Augustine thus far, but since meeting with Blazek, Wisconsin football has been gaining interest from the recruit.
A Perfect Match: Could Augustine Fit Into the Wisconsin Badgers Football Mold?
If there is one thing Wisconsin football has been looking for in their offensive and defensive lineman, it is size. There are plenty of things you can teach someone about football, but size and natural, physical talent cannot be taught to anyone. Wisconsin has been hunting for massive linemen that will pose a threat to defenses, and the harder it is to move the player the better for the Badgers.
Augustine is one of those powerful linemen that rarely ever gets put onto his heels, nor is he forced back often. At 6-foot-7-inches, 290-pounds, the offensive tackle is a force on the outside of the line and often finds himself throwing defenders out of his way. It is difficult to describe the play-style of Augustine without using the word ‘Powerful’ due to the way he moves his opponents.
The talented tackle is exactly what Wisconsin football is looking for on their offensive line, which should bode well for his potential playing time.
Wisconsin Badgers Still Eyeing Multiple 2025 Recruits Following Junior Day
After hosting another successful Junior Day in Madison to celebrate the 2025 recruiting class, the Badgers staff is right back to work looking for exceptional players to add to the class. Augustine is just one of many recruits the Wisconsin football staff has been eagerly following as of late. The staff has been balancing traveling on the road to meet with recruits, as well as hosting on-campus events for some of the more high-profile players.
