The Wisconsin football staff want to bring in ‘Dawgs’ who can play physical football, and they may have found just that in one of their signees.
Gideon Ituka, a three-star running back in the 2024 recruiting class, signed on with the Wisconsin football program after heavy consideration. Ituka is a powerful, physical running back who does not fear putting his shoulder down to make a defender pay. After hitting campus early, the running back has already made quite the impression on the staff and his teammates.
Wisconsin Football Finds Potential Gem in Running Back Gideon Ituka
If there is one position the Wisconsin football staff wanted to solidify in their 2024 recruiting class, it was certainly running back. The Badgers have long carried the ‘Running Back University’ title, and in order to keep the title, the Badgers have to bring plenty of talent to the position room.
Wisconsin football brought in a plethora of running backs by signing a versatile trio in their 2024 recruiting class, starting with the talented four-star recruit Dilin Jones. Before Jones joined the Badgers, both Darrion Dupree and Gideon Ituka announced their commitments, boosting the Wisconsin recruiting class.
Among the trio, Ituka has truly stood out thus far in his short time around the Wisconsin football team and staff. The running back has impressed in the weight room with both his strength and power, which draws some similarities to current running back Jackson Acker. Ituka has a great balance between size and speed at 5-foot-10-inches, and could provide a change of pace for Wisconsin.
A Look Ahead: Can Ituka Find the Field with the Wisconsin Badgers Football Team in 2024?
While Ituka has impressed in a very short time, it still seems unlikely the running back will find much playing time this upcoming season with such a deep position room. Wisconsin football has plenty of running backs on their roster to begin with, and will now add four more between their signings, and transfer Tawee Walker. Walker in particular poses a threat towards Ituka’s future playing time due to their similar physical builds and play-styles.
Wisconsin Football Facing Tough Positional Decisions Ahead of the 2024 Season
Wisconsin may have a deep running back room heading into 2024, which might require some tough decisions regarding playing time, practice reps, and possible redshirts. Unfortunately for the Wisconsin football staff, the running backs are not the only position the Badgers need to make decisions about. The Badgers will also need to consider who will play wide receiver for them this upcoming season, with 15 returning receivers and two new additions, including Tyrell Henry from Michigan State.
On the defensive side of the ball, Wisconsin has added plenty of defensive backs as well which could cause a logjam at corner back.
