The Wisconsin football staff does not have to travel far to find a gem within the 2026 recruiting class that plays along the offensive line.
Gavin Meier, a 2026 offensive tackle from Janesville, Wisconsin, has become a primary in-state recruiting target for the Wisconsin football staff. Meier is a big, physical kid that has a surprising burst of speed for someone with his size and frame. During recent interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics, Meier broke down his recruitment to Wisconsin as well as what he is looking for in a his future collegiate home.
Wisconsin Football Staff Eyeing 2026 In-State Offensive Tackle Gavin Meier

After the opening of the 2026 contact recruiting period, the Wisconsin football staff was quick to get into consistent contact with an in-state recruit. Gavin Meier, an offensive tackle from Janesville, has received plenty of collegiate attention since the end of this past season.
Meier currently holds a scholarship offer from Northern Illinois, but has been in close contact with plenty of big programs. The offensive tackle stated Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern, NDSU, and SDSU have been in the closest contact early. Meier has been busy traveling between schools and camps as he visited Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and NIU among others.
The big man does not all of the offers yet, but will continue to pull them in as he develops his skills and obtains new film this season. Meier revealed that his athleticism has led to plenty of attention this summer as programs are interested in what he offers along the line. The offensive tackle stated, “I’m a pretty big dude and the fact that I can move the way I do is impressive to other coaches.”
Gavin Meier: “Wisconsin Has Always Been a Team I Have Been Rooting For”

For Meier, living in Wisconsin means growing up watching Wisconsin football, and those are memories that have lasted forever for the lineman. When asked about what the offer and interest means for an in-state recruit, Meier stated “Wisconsin has always been a team I have been rooting for watching college football.”
However, Meier also wanted to make it clear that that does not mean that Wisconsin is his primary option right now recruiting wise. The offensive tackle revealed that when it comes to his recruitment, he is more worried about being wanted by a staff rather than finding the correct location.
What Does the Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff Need to Do to Land Meier?

In the eyes of Meier, choosing his collegiate home is going to involve the staff, their development of their players, as well as the success they have on the field. While Meier stated he is grateful for any and all of the interest he has received, ultimately he intends on going to the school that truly wants him.
Often, many recruits attend schools they felt they “needed” to go to to become a better player, or they attend the local school they grew up around. However, for Meier, that will not be the case as he is looking past many of those factors. When asked about factors such as location and prestige, Meier stated, “My goal is obviously D1 and I honestly want to go to a program that shows me that they want me there, it doesn’t really matter where it is at.”
For the Wisconsin Badgers football staff, landing Meier will be about showing the recruit how much they are interested in him, along with what the program can do for him.
