Following the departure of his head coach, a former Washington Husky commitment could become a Wisconsin football target once again.
Dominic Kirks, a 2024 four-star defensive lineman from Ohio, ended his commitment to the Washington Huskies following Kalen DeBoer taking the Alabama coaching job. Kirks is one of many recruits and players to exit the program as the future of the Huskies hangs in the balance. The talented defensive lineman was once a priority target for the Wisconsin football staff, and could become one again now that he is available.
Former Wisconsin Football Priority Recruiting Target Dominic Kirks Re-Opens Recruitment
After the biggest coaching job in college football opened up for the first time since 2007, Washington football Head Coach Kalen DeBoer accepted the opening. DeBoer, like most college football fans, had long looked up to Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban and felt he would be a ‘fool’ if he did not take the job.
Following this shocking move to leave the program he helped revive, much of the Huskies roster began looking for opportunities elsewhere. Among those players who decided to move on is coveted four-star recruit Dominic Kirks, who once was a part of the Huskies 2024 recruiting class. Now, the defensive lineman is available for recruitment again and looks to find his next home quickly.
Kirks is known to be a physical, athletic defender who started his sports career as a basketball player. The basketball background of Kirks has allowed him to level-up his football skills and cause nightmares for the opposing offenses. This past season, Kirks displayed a wonderful ability to use power and finesse moves to get past blockers.
While the defender has shown plenty of talent thus far, he is still rather new to football and has been working on his technique. Kirks is still a raw player technically and fundamentally, but still has an incredible ceiling at the collegiate level and beyond. With the right amount of time and coaching, Kirks could prove himself to be a top-level defensive lineman.
The Impact: Can the Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff Steal Away a Talented Defender?
While Kirks might be available to recruit once again, it seems to be pretty cut and dry that the Ohio native will stay in-state with the Buckeyes. The Ohio State football staff has already received a crystal ball prediction to land the defensive lineman after Kirks visited the campus. The Buckeyes also offered Kirks a scholarship during his visit.
The Wisconsin football staff was one of the first major programs to heavily recruit Kirks, which could come in handy once again. However, Wisconsin has quite the battle against another recruiting powerhouse in the Buckeyes if they wish to land Kirks. Likely, the talented defensive lineman will end up with the Buckeyes given his connection to the program.
