The Wisconsin basketball team has been seeded as a fifth-seed in the NCAA Tournament after losing to the Illinois Fighting Illini.
The Wisconsin basketball team will enter the NCAA Tournament as a five-seed and face off against the 12-seeded James Madison squad in Brooklyn. The Badgers just lost to Illinois in the Big Ten Conference Tournament finals just moments ago, but will now prepare for their next game. Wisconsin is once again dancing after missing the previous tournament last season.
Wisconsin Basketball Enters NCAA Tournament as a Five-Seed Against James Madison
The Wisconsin basketball team has learned their NCAA Tournament fate after the committee has announced the Badgers as a fifth-seed in the tournament. Wisconsin will be the fifth-seeded team in the South Regional section of the bracket, with Duke being announced as the fourth-seeded squad. The Badgers will face a tough James Madison squad that finished their season 31-3, winning the Sun Belt Conference.
James Madison is not a team to mess with, and the Badgers will need to figure that out sooner than later. Wisconsin basketball is fresh off a loss moments ago against the Illinois Fighting Illini, which the Badgers led until the final two minutes of play. Wisconsin will need to have a quick memory and forget the Illinois loss as they shift their focus to the James Madison Dukes.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Shifting Focus Towards NCAA Tournament Following Loss
Wisconsin basketball will enter the tournament against James Madison, who has been one of the hottest teams in the South this season. The Dukes opened the season with a 79-76 overtime victory over the #4 Michigan State Spartans. The Spartans turned out to be a weaker team than analysts originally thought, but the Dukes proved they can stand in their with even the toughest of teams early on this year.
The Dukes lost twice this season to Appalachian State and once to Southern Miss for their three losses on the year. The heart and soul of the team for the Dukes is TJ Bickerstaff, who averages 13.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 62.2% from the field. Bickerstaff holds the 13th-best shooting percentage in college basketball, and the 6-foot-9-inch forward has proven himself to be tough to handle defensively.
For the Wisconsin basketball team, the Badgers will need to stop Bickerstaff in order to defeat the Dukes. James Madison is a momentum based team, and if they get on a run early they will look to move the offense through Bickerstaff. The Wisconsin basketball squad must limit the Dukes scoring opportunities in order to advance in the tournament.
Can the Wisconsin Badgers Make an NCAA Tournament Run this Year?
Every season there is an under-the-radar team that is able to go on an incredible run in the NCAA Tournament, but the real fun is trying to figure out who will do so. For the Wisconsin basketball team, the Badgers have all the means of making a truly incredible run in the tournament as Wisconsin was once a top-ranked school this season.
The Badgers have proven they can win tough games with wins over Marquette, Purdue, and Virginia. Between their stellar offense and solid defense, the Badgers could potentially become a team to beat during the NCAA Tournament.
