The Wisconsin basketball team has lost the Big Ten Conference Tournament following a close loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini.
The Badgers have lost the Conference Tournament after entering as the fifth-seeded team and losing to the second-seeded Illinois squad. Wisconsin was not able to finally get their revenge after suffering a tough loss to Illinois early this season despite multiple lead changes. After suffering a tough month in February, Wisconsin has responded in quite an incredible fashion despite not being able to close out the tournament.
Wisconsin Basketball Loses Big Ten Conference Tournament Despite Storr, Hepburn Controlling Both Ends
The Wisconsin basketball team came so close a number of times to blowing the game out of proportion and taking a dominant lead. The Badgers were just never able to quite dominate against Illinois, and struggled to maintain any sort of lead. Wisconsin had a large lead halfway through the second half, but Illinois erased the lead with a 12-3 run in their favor.
Terrence Shannon Jr came alive once again for the Fighting Illini as his offense proved to be too much for the Wisconsin defense. Shannon Jr dropped 34-points and took 17 free-throw attempts against the Badgers, which is far too many to allow a star player to take. Wisconsin basketball again struggled with their fouls and gave far too many points up at the free-throw line against the Fighting Illini.
Marcus Domask again shredded the Wisconsin defense as he dropped 26-points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. The Badgers had no answers for the talented Illinois shooters and could not stop them down the stretch especially.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Victorious Despite Recent Struggles, Conference Losses
While the Wisconsin basketball team may have not won the game or the Big Ten Conference Tournament, they have surely accomplished what they set out to do. Wisconsin left everything they had out on the court and made sure they played their toughest basketball against their opponents this tournament.
Wisconsin entered the tournament as the fifth-seed and nearly won the finals after playing some of their worst basketball all season entering the tournament. The Badgers sure impressed many with this run, and could be rewarded with a higher seeding in the NCAA Tournament as a result.
Can the Wisconsin Badgers Carry Their Momentum Into the NCAA Tournament?
The Badgers will soon learn their fate in the NCAA Tournament as the selection show is nearly underway. For Wisconsin basketball, winning the tournament is a long-shot and showcasing their best basketball is a much more likely outcome. The Badgers have come a long way this season, from being ranked sixth in the country to dropping out of the rankings entirely.
Wisconsin Badgers basketball has finally returned to their old form from earlier in the season, and hopefully the Badgers will carry this momentum into the NCAA Tournament.
