The Wisconsin basketball staff and Head Coach Greg Gard have continued their recruitment of a game-changing, star in-state big man.
Kai Rogers, a 2025 four-star center from Wauwatosa West, has long been a top recruiting target for Wisconsin basketball in the 2025 recruiting class. Rogers is a versatile, lengthy center that has the size and physicality to make a difference at the collegiate level. Rogers made his first visit back in 2022 to Madison, and has since been a visitor for multiple games the past two seasons.
Wisconsin Basketball Continuing to Target 2025 Center Kai Rogers Following Impressive Run
Currently through 20 games this season, the talented 6-foot-10-inch, 240-pound center Kai Rogers has put on quite the show. The center tied his career-high with a second 33 point performance and has attempted more three-point shots thus far than either of his previous two seasons. Rogers is currently averaging 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game on 71% shooting from the field.
Since Rogers has reached the High School level, he has been a dominant force on both sides of the ball as opposing teams struggle to slow the big man down. Rogers is a physical center, and he is not afraid to back down defenders or handle another big man in the post. Wisconsin basketball has struggled to play physical basketball down low, but Rogers could be key to that changing.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Could Use a Strong, Physical Big Man Moving Forward
If there is one thing that is starting to return to college basketball, it is the art of a powerful big man. Teams that struggle to play down low or have difficulty with size on their team are beginning to stumble upon more and more issues. The giants of college basketball like Zach Edey, Kyle Filipowski, and Zvonimir Ivisic are the new breed of big man as they continue to dominate teams with their balance between size and skill.
The talented Kai Rogers has the chance to do the same, as he has found plenty of success at the High School level playing the same style of basketball. The Wisconsin basketball staff could truly benefit from Rogers because of what he can offer the team on both sides of the ball. While Crowl, Ilver, and Winter are all talented in their own right, none of them possess the physicality that Rogers does on the court.
A Look Ahead: Can the Badgers Basketball Staff Land Rogers?
At this point in time, the recruitment of Rogers has been a two program race and will likely continue that way. Wisconsin basketball and the Iowa State Cyclones have both been battling to land Rogers for months now, although the recruit does not seem ready to make a choice yet. Rogers has kept his focus on his team and bringing them to a State Title, so the college recruitment world has been on the back burner.
While Rogers lives in Wisconsin, the Wisconsin basketball staff will have to work hard to secure the commitment of Rogers as more programs are likely to join in following his success this season.
