The Wisconsin basketball team took down the Rutgers Scarlet Knights partly due to a much-needed return from Kamari McGee.
McGee, who missed the last 11 games due to an ankle injury, made his return to the Wisconsin basketball bench in a tremendous way. The guard scored a Badgers’ career-high 11 points off the bench in ten minutes of play, including a big three-point shot to tie the game for Wisconsin. Wisconsin basketball had one of their role players return for the first time, and the team looked to play more confidently.
Wisconsin Basketball Guard Kamari McGee Drops 11 Points in Ten Minutes of Play During Win
In a surprising turn of events, guard Kamari McGee returned to play for the Wisconsin basketball team despite still being listed as a limited practice participant. McGee was never officially ruled out before the game against Rutgers, and made his return off the bench in a spectacular way. The talented guard recorded 11 points off the bench on 5-of-5 shooting, including a deep triple to tie the game for Wisconsin.
McGee, along with true Freshman guard John Blackwell, combined for 28 points off the bench for the Wisconsin Badgers in the win. McGee seemed to pick up his play when Wisconsin needed him the most, as he scored a triple and a layup to bring Wisconsin back into the game.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Returns Key Bench Player Ahead of Conference Tournament
For Wisconsin basketball, the timing of the return of McGee is crucial due to the looming tournaments. Wisconsin must take on Purdue first, but then the Big Ten Conference Tournament will quickly get under way. A good showing is not necessarily needed for Wisconsin, but the Badgers could certainly use the wins and confidence heading into their NCAA Tournament showing.
McGee is returning at just the right time as he offers much-needed rest for starter Chucky Hepburn and gives another spark to the team. McGee has also been a steady shooter off the bench, hitting 59.1% of his shots when he does decide to pull the trigger.
Is McGee the Key for Wisconsin Basketball Moving Forward?
In his first game returning from a nasty ankle injury suffered against Indiana, McGee impressed and offered everything the Badgers needed off the bench. It was not just McGee, however, as John Blackwell added a tremendous 17-points on stellar shooting. McGee did not miss a shot from the field and did not allow any easy buckets.
McGee could be a player Wisconsin basketball needed back because of how he compliments the team on defense and on offense. Hopefully, McGee and the Badgers can do more of the same against #2 Purdue on the road.
